How do I initiate a transfer?
To transfer your brokerage account to Public, you can submit a request through our mobile app or website.
Mobile App: Tap the three lines in the top left corner and select “Transfer accounts to Public.”
Website: Click the three lines in the top right corner and select “Transfer my stocks.”
For incoming accounts valued at $5,000 or more, Public will credit your account for transfer fees up to $100 after the transfer is complete. It is recommended to have sufficient cash in your transferring account to cover the fee initially. The credit will be applied once the transfer is successful.
Do I have to transfer everything?
No, when moving your assets to your Public account, you can request a Full Transfer or a Partial Transfer.
A Partial Transfer will allow you to specify a list of the stocks and share amounts you intend to transfer over to Public. When transferring your account to Public, you can choose between moving everything (Full Transfer) or just specific stocks and shares (Partial Transfer). A Full Transfer moves all whole shares to your Public account, while a Partial Transfer lets you select the exact stocks and number of shares you want to transfer.
What else do I need to know?
With a Full Account Transfer, your current brokerage account will be closed once your stock positions and cash are moved to your Public account.
Mutual Funds are currently not supported here at Public. Any unsupported assets that arrive can my manually liquidated by reaching out to our support team. You can always move only your stock positions by requesting a Partial Transfer.
Active margin balances with your former brokerage must be resolved prior to transferring your account to Public.
Any fractional shares or cryptocurrency positions, positions may be liquidated by your other brokerage firm and will arrive in your Public account as a cash balance after the initial transfer takes place. Please check with your current brokerage firm on their policies if you have any questions.
